Photograms.
What are photograms/Rayograms?
Photograms are a way of making photographs without a camera. when making these you place objects on photographic paper and exposing it to light from an enlarger.
How do you make a photogram?
When making a photogram you firstly choose a variety of objects and arrange them on photographic paper. Then you expose these objects on the paper to the light for a few seconds.
Man Ray.
Man ray was born in Emmanuel Radnitzky on august 27 1890 and he died in november 1976 he was an american visual artist. This is one of Man Ray's photograms, I like this because its very clear what the objects are. They are quite cluttered and close together which leaves just a little spaced around the objects. I would describe this as interesting because there are a range of objects The image is abstract to me because although the objects are everyday objects they look unnatural. I find this process unique because it uses photographic paper and light from the enlarger. Some of these images have come out clearer then the others like the scissors have come out more clearer then the leaf this is because scissors are opaque and the leaf is transparent so the paper picks up the heavier objects. Moholy Nagy.I like this image because its a clear photogram and the composition is good because everything is arranged creatively. The contrast is good because of the black and white focused |
Image 1:
I prefer this image because the safety pins came out really good and the tape. This image worked well for my first time doing photograms. I like the way the white shows up in this image, because it shows how the actual object comes out. |

Although this image has the same amount objects it looks less busy than my first one. However I think that the spiral wire came out really well on top of the scissors even though it doesn't look layered. |
